Sanborn Christian School...

...is located in Sanborn, Iowa, and officially began as an incorporated and approved school by the State Board of Education in 1917.  We celebrated our 100th anniversary of serving this community with Christian education during the year of 2016-2017 school year!!  We currently have an enrollment of 117 students (preschool through 8th grade) from the community and surrounding rural areas.   We have 10 full-time teachers,  4 part-time teachers, and 9 part-time staff members.  We operate our own buses and have bus routes that serve the areas of Sibley, Hartley, Primghar, and Paullina.  The school's facilities include the kitchen, library, gymnasium, science lab / art room, up-to-date computer lab, music / band room, tutoring rooms, conference room, staff room, and 11 classrooms.  Our school completed a $3.5 million addition and renovation to the school in February 2017.

Prior to the organization of this Christian day school, summer classes were held beginning in 1914 in the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church. In 1917, an addition was built on the south side of the church to serve as a classroom. In 1918, it was necessary to have another classroom, so a basement room was used for this purpose. This arrangement continued for three years.  In 1921, a new two-room school building was erected. Classes were held in the two-room school until 1944. During the Depression, the school's existence was threatened, but despite many trials and hardships, the Christian school remained.  In 1957, the building of a new school began and the first classes began in the new building in 1958.  The first kindergarten classes began in the basement of the Christian Reformed Church in 1967 with 15 students in the class.

Sanborn Christian offers a complete Biblically-based curriculum in Preschool through 8th grade, the students participate in interscholastic activities (speech, solo and ensemble night) and interscholastic athletics (volleyball, basketball, soccer, track and field) at the middle school level.  Our students participate in other co-curricular activities as well (Future Problem Solvers, Jr. High play).  We are a member of Christian Schools International, and we use educational services from the Northwest Iowa Area Educational Agency.  Sanborn Christian is accredited by the State of Iowa as well as Christian Schools International (CSI) and is a member of the Sanborn Chamber of Commerce.
